Shopify Plus Development

Enterprise Shopify,
without the enterprise drag.

Custom checkout, multi-store architecture and automation for brands that have hit the ceiling of standard Shopify — built on the platform’s own primitives, not worked around.

What this is

Shopify Plus, plainly.

Shopify Plus is Shopify’s enterprise tier. It does not make your store faster or better-designed on its own — it unlocks things standard Shopify will not let you touch: checkout, multiple storefronts, higher API limits, automation and native B2B. Plus development is the work of using those capabilities properly, which is where most of the value actually sits.

Checkout development

The single biggest reason brands move to Plus. Checkout is the highest-intent surface on the store and the only place standard Shopify keeps locked.

  • Checkout UI extensions for content, upsells and trust elements
  • Shopify Functions for discount, shipping and payment logic
  • Delivery and payment customization rules
  • Legacy Scripts rebuilt as Functions
  • One-page checkout behaviour tested rather than assumed

Multi-store & markets

Several storefronts under one organization — for regions, brands or wholesale — without running several disconnected businesses.

  • Expansion stores for additional markets
  • Markets for currency, language and domain routing
  • Shared catalogue strategy and where it should not be shared
  • Regional pricing, tax and fulfilment mapping
  • Theme architecture that survives being deployed to six stores

Custom storefront build

A theme built for your catalogue and merchandising rather than a purchased theme bent into shape until it breaks.

  • Custom Liquid theme on a modern, maintainable structure
  • Design system and component library
  • Merchandising, search and collection architecture
  • Metaobjects and metafields for structured content
  • Performance budget set before the first template is written

Automation with Flow

The operational work that quietly consumes a team’s week, moved into the platform.

  • Order tagging, routing and fraud workflows
  • Inventory and restock automations
  • Customer segmentation and lifecycle triggers
  • Internal alerting to Slack or email
  • Handoffs to ERP and CRM where Flow stops

Upgrade from standard Shopify

Moving to Plus is far less disruptive than replatforming — the platform underneath is identical. The work is in what you now do differently.

  • Readiness assessment before the Plus conversation with Shopify
  • Checkout logic rebuilt on extensibility and Functions
  • Wholesale moved onto native B2B
  • Markets and expansion stores stood up
  • Nothing rebuilt that did not need rebuilding

Scale & reliability

The things that only matter once volume is real, and matter enormously then.

  • API rate-limit-aware integration patterns
  • Bulk operations for large catalogue changes
  • Launch and flash-sale readiness review
  • Error monitoring and alerting
  • Staging, QA and release process

The honest version

When Plus is worth it — and when it is not.

Plus carries a meaningful platform cost on top of development. It is worth it for a specific reason, and “we are growing” is not one of them.

Worth it

A capability you cannot get otherwise

  • Checkout needs logic or content that standard Shopify will not allow
  • Several storefronts for regions, brands or business units
  • B2B and DTC on one platform with company accounts and price lists
  • Order volume or integration traffic near standard API limits
  • Operations heavy enough that Flow automation pays for itself
  • A wholesale channel currently running on spreadsheets or a bolt-on app
Not yet

Problems Plus does not solve

  • A slow store — that is a theme, app and image problem, and it follows you to Plus
  • A low conversion rate — start with CRO, which is cheaper and answers the question
  • A store that looks dated — a theme rebuild does not require Plus
  • Revenue milestones on their own, with no feature you are blocked on
  • An agency telling you it is time without naming the capability you need

If you cannot name the Plus feature you are blocked on, you are not blocked yet.

How it runs

Discovery, then a fixed number.

Plus builds go wrong in scoping, not in development. The audit stage exists so the estimate is based on what the store actually contains rather than what the brief says it contains.

01

Technical Discovery

Current theme and code quality, app stack and what each app really does, integrations, data model, and any Scripts or legacy checkout logic still in play. This is where the surprises get found, before they are your problem.

Week 1–2
02

Architecture & Scope

Store structure, markets, theme architecture, checkout approach and integration boundaries — written down and priced. Fixed scope, fixed price, agreed before development starts.

Week 2–3
03

Build

Theme, checkout extensions, Functions, metaobjects and automation, developed in staging against a performance budget with QA at every stage.

Week 3–10
04

Migration & Launch

Data, redirects, apps, integrations and analytics moved and verified. Launch runs to a checklist with a rollback path, not to optimism.

Stabilize & Hand Over

Monitoring in place, documentation written, your team trained on what they now own. Optional ongoing support if you would rather we kept it.

FAQ

Shopify Plus questions.

Shopify Plus is Shopify’s enterprise tier. It adds capabilities standard Shopify does not have: checkout customization through checkout extensibility and Shopify Functions, multiple storefronts under one organization, expansion stores for additional markets, higher API limits, Shopify Flow automation, and native B2B with company accounts and price lists.

Usually when one of four things is true: you need to change checkout beyond what standard Shopify allows, you are running several regional or brand storefronts, you need B2B and DTC on the same platform, or your order volume and API usage are hitting limits. Revenue alone is a poor trigger — the feature need is the real one.

Yes, and it is less disruptive than people expect, because the platform underneath is the same. The work is in the things Plus lets you do differently: rebuilding checkout logic on extensibility and Functions, setting up markets or expansion stores, and moving wholesale onto native B2B.

Scripts were the old way of customizing checkout logic on Plus and have been superseded by Shopify Functions. If a store still has discount, shipping or payment logic that depends on Scripts, that logic needs rebuilding as Functions. It is one of the most common pieces of hidden technical debt we find on older Plus stores.

No — the Plus agreement is between you and Shopify, and we would rather you own it. We help you scope what you actually need before that conversation, so you are not buying an enterprise tier to solve a problem standard Shopify could have handled.
